Well, I'll admit it. After seeing this episode, all I could say was "What just happened?" I feel like it was an important one and that it will make much more sense by the end of the season. But there is so much about it I don't understand. So here is what I can tell you...
Connect The Dots
It was so sad to see Sayid's true love, Nadia, married to his brother. This is the first flashsideways that didn't seem like a better life for our losties. When he told the Man in Locke that the only thing he ever needed died in his arms, he was referring to Nadia, when she was hit by a car. ("The Incident")
And not much has changed between Sayid and his brother. The only other time we have seen Omer was when they were young boys. Omer had been instructed by their father to kill a chicken but couldn't do it. Sayid was the one who did the dirty work to help his brother. (S5 E10 "He's Our You") Now that story seems to be repeating itself when Omer asked for Sayid's help with the loan sharks.
The loan sharks were guys from the freighter! (Yes, I actually jumped up and down when I recognized them.) They were Keamy and Omar the mercenaries who were hired by Widmore to get Ben off the island. Keamy is the one who shot Alex. It is ironic that Sayid shot Keamy in this new storyline. In the original, they wrestled each other and Sayid stabbed him in the back. Then Richard came to Sayid's aid and shot Keamy. He appeared to be dead but showed up later in the Orchid where Ben finally finished him off.Man In Locke's speech to Sayid "What if I told you you could have anything you wanted..." sounded a lot like Ben's speech to Locke when he said "Imagine a magic box..."
Kate told Claire that she raised Aaron and at that moment Claire gave her the most evil look possible. I wonder if she remembered the psychic who told her no one else should raise him. Probably not, since she's just Crazy Jungle Claire now.Dogen told Sayid the sad story of his son's death. I'm glad to finally know what is up with that baseball. Remember we have a face for Dogen's son. We saw him last week at the same auditions as Jack's son. Also, Dogen's motive for coming to the island and staying sound very similar to Juliet's story of staying on the island to save her sister from cancer.
Miles was surprised to see Frank Lapidis because the last he had seen him was when Frank was flying the helicopter to and from the freighter. He probably thought Frank blew up with the freighter. That's why Frank said they would catch up later.
Details and Easter Eggs
Did you see Sayid pass Dr. Jack Shepherd at the hospital? I wonder if he helped with Omer's surgery.Tonight we heard Claire sing the song "Catch a Falling Star." In earlier episodes we learned that Claire's father Christian used to sing it to her, she requested that an adoptive couple sing it to Aaron, and we later heard Kate singing it to him. It was also playing at the end of this episode as Kate was walking through the dead bodies. How creepy!
Did you see something in the smoke? When Kate was hanging on the ladder with the Smoke monster running above, at one point you can see bodies fly by!
Did you notice that Ilana refers to everyone by their last names? It's probably because that is how they are listed on Jacob's list.
Ilana found the same symbol on the wall that Hurley found when Jacob sent him on the trip to the lighthouse last week. The symbol is a Shen Ring, an ancient Egyptian symbol of eternity and protection. I thought it was just a secret way out of the temple but she told everyone to get "inside."
My Theory
I think the reason Dogen didn't try to kill Sayid himself was because Sayid is a candidate. Last week when he cursed at Hurley in Japanese he said if he wasn't a protected he would cut his head off. That is probably the same thing that held him back with Sayid.
My Complaint
For those of you who are in the middle Tennessee area I'm sure you shared my frustrations when a Sonic commercial popped up in the middle of the kitchen scene. I really hope they fired whatever moron leaned on that button at the wrong time! I don't think we missed very much. Even though they ran the 30 second commercial, seemed like the scene picked up where it left off. I'm not going to form an official boycott, but I doubt I will eat at Sonic this week!
Namaste!
