S6 E7 "Dr. Linus"

"...But I chose the island, over her. All in the name of Jacob. I sacrificed everything for him and he didn't even care. I stabbed him. I was so angry, confused. I was terrified that I was about to lose the only thing that had ever mattered to me: my power. But the thing that really mattered...was already gone." -Ben

Connect The Dots
Dr. Arzt- I can't believe how much screen time this character is getting this season! Leslie Arzt was only introduced in the first season for the sole purpose of being a "red shirt" who blew up. Hurley mentioned him tonight in regards to why he was so nervous around the dynamite. And in the off-island story line he was Ben's partner in crime in the blackmailing scheme.

Now we know why Ilana picked up Jacob's ashes a couple episodes back. She seems to know a lot about all the main characters, including Miles' ability to communicate with the dead.

We saw Dr. Linus taking care of his aging father. Instead of the guy we saw hitting on Kate last season, he was looking more like the first time we saw him in season 3. Remember when Sawyer called him Skeletor?! Ben seems to have a much better relationship with Roger Linus now. It's interesting that they did go to the island but left. And did you get the inside joke as Ben changed the oxygen tank? In the original storyline he killed his father by gassing him!

Miles mentioned Nikki and Paulo! Here's your refresher: Nikki and Paulo were introduced in the 3rd season. We learned their story in the episode "Expose." They had conned a man named Zukerman and poisoned him to steal his diamonds. They left on Oceanic 815 immediately after. Once the flight crashed they didn't know the whereabouts of the diamonds. They searched anywhere luggage was found on the island. Eventually Paulo found them but didn't tell Nikki. When Nikki figured it out she used a Medusa spider on him which would paralyze him for 8 hours. The plan backfired when she too was bit by a spider. The rest of the Losties found them and assumed they were dead. So they buried Nikki and Paulo alive, with the diamonds. So Miles' special power turns out to be better than a metal detector in finding treasure under the sand!

Hopefully none of you missed that the student Dr. Linus was tutoring was his daughter from the other storyline. Now her name is Alex Rousseau instead of Alex Linus. So she grew up as Danielle Rousseau's daughter. She mentioned that her mom has two jobs and doesn't mention a father. I wonder if Danielle is still a scientist?

Details and Easter Eggs
Did you notice that Dr. Linus had his name on every item of his lunch? It reminds me of that episode of Friends when someone ate Ross' sandwich in the faculty lounge. It doesn't surprise me that Ben's that guy too.

At the beach camp, Lapidis told Ben "When you're done searching the library, I could use some help." But Ben was actually searching Sawyer's old tent. He came across a magazine titled Booty Babes, a book about Benjamin Disraeli (A British Prime Minister in the 1800's) and The Chosen by Chaim Potok.

When Dr. Linus was helping Alex study he was quizzing her on the East India Trading Company. This is the company believed to own The Black Rock. The slave ship that Richard probably came from.

The final scenes in The Black Rock, Richard was sweating. In the Season 5 Bonus material, Nestor Carbonell (the actor who plays Richard) said Richard doesn't age and doesn't sweat. I had never noticed it before but it is true. So now that he is sweating what does that mean? With Jacob dead, will he now age? Is he mortal now?

Questions
Is anyone else getting tired of Sun? For the last season and a half she has said variations of the same line: "I need to find my husband." "Could that be where my husband is?" "Would he know where my husband is." "You saw my husband?" Geez, it's getting as old as Michael's "They took my son!" Plus, it's a waste of a good actress.

Namaste!

  1. If Jacob being dead disables all his gifts, wouldn't the dynamite have blown up?

  2. That's a great question Aaron. I guess maybe his gifts outlast him. Richard seemed to know this fact since he knew the dynamite wouldn't work if he tried to light it.
