Don't worry I'm not going to turn this blog into some sort of post-Lost diary. I just want to let you know if you had a hard time the day after the finale, you are not alone.
I have to admit I've been reading fan reactions, and a few theories of how people are interpreting the ending. But I really feel I need to finish analyzing the episode before I start commenting on all that. So I'll save it for my Online Buzz post. Except to say this: If you read my post last night, you know I LOVED how it ended. If you don't share those feelings with me, give it a few more days. I think the more you mull it over, the episode will grow on you.
The Most Significant Moment of the Series
Christian: Hello Jack.
Jack: I don’t understand. You died.
C: Yeah. Yes I did.
J: Then how are you here right now?
C: How are you here?
J: [pause] I died, too.
C: That’s OK. It’s OK, son [hugs]. I love you son.
J: I love you, too, Dad. Are you real?
C: I sure hope so. Yeah, I’m real. You’re real. Everything that’s ever happened to you is real. All those people in the church. They’re all real, too.
J: They’re all...They're all dead?
C: Everyone dies some time, kiddo. Some have been before you, some long after you.
J: Why are they all here now?
C: Well there is no now, here.
J: Where are we, Dad?
C: This is a place that you’ve all made together so that you could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people. That’s why all of you are here. Nobody dies alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you.
J: For what?
C: To remember, and to... let go.
J: Kate... she said we were leaving.
C: Not leaving, no. Moving on.
J: Where are we going?
C: Let’s go find out.
Connect The Dots
So I hope everyone noticed that UnLocke punctured Jack's neck with the knife. This was the same cut we have seen bleeding from time to time in the Sideways World. I also wonder about his appendectomy scar. UnLocke stabbed him there too. I'm surprised it didn't bleed all the time too, it was a much bigger wound.
I love how Kate said "I saved you a bullet." She was referencing his comment earlier in the episode when her bullets were going through him. He had said "Save your bullets."
In the scene when John Locke woke up from surgery there were several similarities to other episodes.
-John woke up when he should have been sedated just like Ben during his back surgery. ("Not in Portland")
-John said "It worked." just like Juliet said before she died. ("LA X")
-He wiggled his left toe and the screen shot was the same as when Jack's ex-wife Sarah first wiggled hers. ("Man of Science, Man of Faith")
-Of course they flashed in shots of John wiggling his toe in the pilot episode.
-And the way John wanted to leave even though he just had surgery is reminiscent of when Jack wanted to go after the helicopter right after his appendectomy. ("Something Nice Back Home")
After his EPIC battle on the rocks with UnLocke. Jack told Kate "Just find me some thread and I can count to five." This was one last reference to Jack and Kate's first scene together when she stitched him up during the pilot episode.
How could you not love that scene when James and Juliet remembered each other? Here are all the lines which were in both that scene and Juliet's death scene: "We should get coffee sometime." "We could go dutch." "Juliet, it's me." "I got'cha I got'cha" "Kiss me James." "You got it Blondie."
When Kate and Jack met up after the concert, she started the conversation by saying "It's over." We just saw her say that minutes before regarding UnLocke being dead. Speaking of this scene, there seems to be so much emphasis in the way she said "I've missed you so much." It's as if she lived many years after she left Jack on the island and loved him the rest of her life.
Christian addressed Jack the way he has since he was a little boy: "Hey kiddo."
Well we never got the exact phrase "Live together, Die alone." But it was alluded to three times. The first was when Hurley objected to Jack going in the cave. He said "Dude you can't go down alone. Desmond didn't make it how the hell are you going to survive?... No, no way. I'm not going to let you die!" And the second time was the simple action of Vincent laying next to Jack as he actually died. Jack didn't die alone. Finally, Christian said in his explanation at the church "Nobody dies alone, Jack."
Details and Easter Eggs
I can't believe Jack didn't have any island flashes in the hospital when Detective Ford said "Thanks Doc." There's no telling how many times Sawyer said that to Jack on the island.
Many fans were worried Hurley would become the island's protector when he watched Jack's "inauguration" and said "I'm just glad it's not me." ("What They Died For")
This is probably being too nit picky but I don't know how Jack knew Desmond had a son. Desmond and Penny were in hiding when little Charlie was born and I can't think of a time when the men could've caught up.
As the Ajira plane took off I thought about each character's flying history. Richard had probably never flown in a plane. James and Claire had not been on one since Oceanic 815. Kate had had a history of not making it to her destination. It's been at least 3 years since Miles has flown since he came to the island by boat. Fortunately, it's only been about 2 weeks (this entire season) since Frank had flown one!
I have to admit, I guess Jack was about to shut his eye for the final time when I saw the shoe hanging in the tree. It was the same shoe he saw when he first crashed on the island.
Here it was in the pilot. It was so much cleaner back then!Hurley and Ben talked outside the church about working with each other as #1 and #2. Do you realize those were positions they could have held for centuries? Jacob and the Man In Black were there for roughly 2000 years.
Did you see the stained glass window behind Christian? This was the final homage to all the various religions Lost has eluded to over the seasons. Here is a list of the people in the church in the last scene. In my next post I'll talk about who is not there and theories why. (This picture is my new desktop wallpaper.)

Irony
The Smoke Monster wanted to sink the island. That would've been his 'ideal world.' In the Sideways world they created, i.e. the losties ideal world, the island was at the bottom of the ocean.
Jack kicked a kneeling UnLocke into the ocean exactly how UnLocke had kicked a kneeling Jacob in the fire.
Ok guys, time to wrap this one up. I plan to have my Online Buzz post up on Sunday as usual. It may be a Two-part-er too. But check back before then. I'll be posting pictures of my party, the Jimmy Kimmel alternate endings, and some other stuff. The show may be over but I will keep this blog going for at least a couple more weeks.
Namaste!
