"Le Fleur" Online Buzz

Sorry it has taken me so long for this Onlinc Buzz post. I guess I went on my own hiatus. But I know that many of you will be checking this site today (Wednesday) because, like me, you are going through Lost withdrawals today. I hope this helps.

Details and Easter Eggs
Here's a little more information about the symbol on Paul's necklace. Ankhs are the Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read "eternal life." Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by it's loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over the chest. The ankh appears frequently in Egyptian tomb paintings, often at the fingertips of a god or goddess in images that represent the deities of the afterlife conferring the gift of life on the dead person's mummy. The ankh is often associated with immortality. If you take a good look at the statue, he appears to be grasping two very large ankhs.

The girl dancing in the opening scene was wearing a Geronimo Jackson t-shirt. This is a fictitious 70's band created by the Lost creators. It has been referenced many times on the show. For more details visit http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Geronimo_Jackson

Online Buzz

Most of the online buzz is the debate over of which Egyptian god the statue represents. The most common theory is that it is the god of Anubis the god of the afterlife. But I've also read theories that it could be Taweret the goddess of pregnancy and childbirth, Set the god of chaos and destruction, Ra the sun god, or Horus the god of the sky. I personally am having a hard time believing in any of them. With each Egyptian god, there is usually some detail (the size of the ears, the position of the hands, the lack of a rod, the headpiece) that doesn't fit. If the show's creators had wanted us to know for certain who or what it was, they would've shown us the front. It seems more likely that it is something entirely new created only for Lost.

There are some complaints about young Charlotte's appearance. Last season we learned from Ben that Charlotte was born July 2, 1979 ("Confirmed Dead"). The earlier scenes of "Le Fleur" (noted as "Three years earlier") were supposed to have taken place in 1974. So Charlotte should not have been born yet. Could this be a continuity error or is there some sort of time-travel explanation?

Well we have one week down and only one more to go in this hiatus. Hang in there!

Namaste!

  2. The next new episode will air this Wednesday, March 18. I wrote this post on day 7 of a 14-day hiatus. Thus, "one week down and only one more to go."
