The lamp post was a Narnia reference. In The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe the lamp post lights the way into Narnia.
We've learned from the cast list the lady escorting Sayid is named Ilana. The other man in the front of the plane, the one who spoke with Jack in line, is Caesar.

More Similarities Between 316 and 815
316: Sun played with Jin's wedding ring. 815: Rose played with Bernard's wedding ring.
316: Ben arrived late. 815: Hurley arrived late.
316: Ben was handicapped. 815: Locke was handicapped. (That one's a little weak.)
Theories
This episode left a lot of gaps in the storyline (for example: What caused Hurley, Sayid, and Kate to get on the flight?) This has everyone theorizing like crazy. Here are some notable ones I've read.
Many believe Hurley learned about flight 316 from one of the deceased he pals around with. We know he has interacted with Ana Lucia, Mr. Eko, and Charlie. Charlie seems like the most obvious choice since Hurley brings a guitar to substitute for Charlie's.
I've read a theory that Sayid was offered a deal to go back. Just about the only thing that Sayid would care about would be bringing Nadia back. So what if Ben's people convinced him that they could turn the clock back to before she crashed. If he never returned from the island, she might never be killed.
Not everyone on the plane went to the same "place." The Oceanic 5 flashed in time to DHARMA-era Island (1970s), while the rest of the Ajira 316 passengers crashed on the island in the “present.” (2008)
There are a couple theories about why Kate appeared to sleep with Jack. One is that she just wanted to keep him from asking a thousand questions. Another is that she was trying to get pregnant so she could represent Claire on the airplane. Another is that she was trying to get pregnant because she knew she would never get another chance to have a baby. Maybe raising and losing Aaron made her realize she wanted a child of her own but knew she wouldn't be able to do it on the island. Good thing Jack was there to "help!"
And here's the craziest: Jack's grandpa Ray is really Jack grown old.
My Crack Pot Theory
I think that Kate was persuaded to leave Aaron behind by... Claire. Remember Claire was told by the psychic in "Raised by Another" that Claire had to be the one to raise him. We were reminded of that detail last season when Hurley told Jack he was not supposed to raise him. ("Something Nice Back Home") Claire appeared to Kate in a dream once before. ("There's No Place Like Home") So I think Claire appeared to Kate again, instructed her to leave Aaron with her mother (who is conveniently currently in L.A.) then go back to the island to rescue Claire. Kate would not want to talk about it with Jack because it makes her look crazy, plus it reminds her she ultimately loses Aaron.
Namaste!

Wow - great theories, thanks for sharing them. I rather like the one about Jack's grandpa actually turning out to be Jack. That's clever.
