S5 E16 & 17 "The Incident"

In case any of you were worried that my finale party was anything less than awesome, here are some pictures:

Unfortunately, I'm still sick and I wasted all my energy on my party. So I didn't have it in me to stay up, watch the 2-hour episode a second time, and post last night. But the good news is this will be the first of several posts I'll do for this final episode. So keep checking my blog over the next week.

Connect The Dots
We learned tonight that Jacob has been dropping into our main characters lives at very significant moments. Just for fun I'll try to put them in chronological order.

Jacob visited Young James (aka "Jimmy") on the day of his parents' double funeral. Adult James reminded us of the details of their deaths later in the episode when he told Jack. Little James
was beginning to write his letter to "Mr. Sawyer." Of course we know he did eventually finish that letter, carried it with him for 20+ years, and read it to "Mr. Sawyer" (aka Anthony Cooper) right before killing him. (S3 "The Brig")

Next was Kate. Although I had been spoiled and knew there would be a "Young Kate" in this episode, I would've known in the first shot of her with her little boyfriend because he was holding the airplane. Her boyfriend's name was Tom Brennan. When they get a little older they will make a time capsule together and he will put that airplane in it. Tom later gets killed trying to help Kate while she was on the run. (S1 "Born to Run") Years later, Kate robs a bank just to get that toy plane out of a deposit box. (S1 "Whatever the Case May Be")

I was very excited about the flashback of Jack in the operating room. He told Kate about this operation in the pilot episode while she was stitching him up! He told her how counting to five helped him control his fear. She used that method later in the episode while she was hiding from the Smoke Monster.

Jacob visited Jin and Sun on their wedding day. We first saw their wedding in "...In Translation." It was sweet that he had words of encouragement for them. Too bad it would only take a few years for this marriage to start falling apart.

Jacob was sitting on a bench nearby when Locke was pushed out the eighth-story window by his father. ("The Man From Tallahassee") If we had any doubt, this proves that Jacob is not restricted by time. Did he bring John back to life?

Jacob visited Sayid at the moment Nadia died. Is it possible that he saved Sayid from getting hit also? We know that it was because of her death that Ben was able to exploit Sayid into killing for him. I'll be checking into the make of the car to see if it matches the one in Ben's picture.

Jacob visited Hurley when he was released from jail, the day of the Ajira flight. This shows us that Ben's lawyer was able to get him released just as he told Ben. And now we know where Hurley's guitar case came from. But I guess we'll have to wait until next year to learn it's contents.

Details and Easter Eggs
Another appearance of The Black Rock. Jacob and his rival were watching from the shore the day the ship arrived. But that doesn't explain how it got to the middle of the island!

Kate is a New Kids On The Block fan! The lunch box she was trying to steal had the boy band on the front. This probably means nothing to most of you but it excited me since I am also a NKOTB fan. This also gave us somewhat of a date stamp since the band was only popular around 1990 which means Kate was about 13 years old in that scene.

Richard verified last week's theory that Eloise is pregnant with Daniel in 1977. Then he knocked her unconscious. What a friend!

When Young James was on the steps of the church, the man giving him the pep talk said "They're gone and there ain't nothing you can do to change that." This seems reminiscent of James' quote in this season's premiere when he was dealing with the loss of Kate: "Don't tell me what I can't change." ("Because You Left")

The candy bar in the vending machine Jack wanted to buy was an Apollo bar. It is a made up candy bar which has made many appearances on Lost. Most notably, it was the candy bar Rose saved for Bernard in Season 1, when she believed he was still alive.

We learned the answer to the question "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" Richard answered in Latin "He who will save us all."

Questions
Jacob visited Sayid and Hurley after their original trips to the island. Are we supposed to assume he never visited them as children to direct them to the Oceanic flight?

I know there's a lot more I need to blog about but that's all I can do today. Unfortunately, we have plenty of time!

Namaste!
